  • Issue clearances to departing IFR aircraft.
  • Instruct all pilots to maintain 3,000 ft and to expect filed cruise altitude (if higher) ten minutes after departure.
  • All departing IFR aircraft shall be assigned the ROGERS # (ROG#) standard instrument departure procedure.
  • Assign departure frequencies per the table above based on RZC TRACON configuration.
  • Control ground traffic on all movement areas except active runways.
  • Ensure departing aircraft have been issued the current altimeter setting.

Local Airspace: 5 nm radius of ROG, SFC–3,900 MSL.

Local Procedures:

  • Departure releases are required per aircraft, unless RZC TRACON permits blanket releases.
  • IFR departures require a release from RZC TRACON. Automatic releases do not remove the necessity for rolling calls.

  • Issue IFR clearances using SID procedures. If a pilot requests no SID, the SID initial heading must be assigned on departure.
  • Enter flight plan information into STARS or the NAS, as appropriate, for VFR aircraft.
  • Assign initial altitude of 5,000 ft and East Radar frequency.
  • Control all movement areas, excluding the active runways and taxiways located between Runways 34L and 34R.

Local Procedures:

  • Obtain a release from Razorback Approach for all IFR, SVFR, or practice approach aircraft. Releases are valid for 3 minutes.
  • IFR aircraft must be released on the SID or the SID initial heading, unless otherwise coordinated.
  • VFR aircraft departing Runway 16 must be assigned heading 160 or 200, whichever is closer to their requested direction of flight.
  • VFR aircraft departing Runway 34 must be assigned heading 320 or 360, whichever is closer to their requested direction of flight.
  • Instruct VFR aircraft that initially contact Tower to contact Approach for radar sequencing.
  • ⚠ The distance between runway hold short markings between Runway 34L and 34R is approximately 75 feet. Larger aircraft may not be able to hold short of one runway and clear the other.
  • Runway 34R/16L is the primary IFR runway. There are no instrument approaches to Runway 34L/16R.

  • IFR departures must be assigned 5,000 ft or their requested altitude, whichever is lower. Aircraft requesting an altitude higher than 5,000 ft must be advised to expect their filed altitude 10 minutes after departure.
  • Unless otherwise coordinated, assign runway heading and 3,000 ft to aircraft requesting practice approaches with TRACON.
  • VFR departures must be assigned at or below 2,500 ft.

Delegated Airspace:

  • Tower is delegated the airspace within a 5 nm radius from the center of the airfield, 2,500 ft and below.
  • Departure corridor extends from the center of the airfield in the direction of the ATIS advertised departure runway:
    • Straight out to 5 nm, 5,000 ft and below.
    • Heading bounds: 34R/L → 300°–010° / 16L/R → 120°–190°
  • Final airspace: 4 nm west of West runway extended centerline and 4 nm east of East runway extended centerline, beginning at the tower boundary and extending 15 nm.

Local Procedures:

  • All IFR departures shall be assigned headings within the departure corridor corresponding with their first assigned fix.
  • VFR departures: after all conflicts resolved, assign aircraft on course. If unable, assign the nearest appropriate heading. Do not assign a heading within 30° of the reciprocal of the final approach course for the ATIS advertised runway.
  • TRACON will set the approach sequence. Tower is responsible for determining the landing sequence.
  • VFR arrivals: LC assumes control upon transfer of communications. LC is responsible for issuing pattern entry and the sequence of VFR arrivals into JAN.
  • Go-around / unplanned missed approach: notify the receiving radar controller and assign runway heading and 3,000 ft, unless otherwise coordinated.

Local Procedures:

  • Hand off VFR aircraft to Tower for sequencing and pattern entry into JAN no later than 10 nm from the field, or as soon as practical.
