ZME-ZTL Letter of Agreement


a. Automated flight data and mandatory radar handoffs suffice for coordination on aircraft climbing or descending to the altitude displayed in the data block. This does not constitute coordination/approval for IAFDOF.

b. Aircraft departing airports with less than 5 minutes flying time from the center boundary must be verbally coordinated.

c. Deviations may be made only after coordination that completely defines responsibility in each case.


a. ATL arrivals traversing the MEI area (GWO-UH, ZME 43) at FL350:

  1. ZME UH sector initiates handoff to ZTL UH (MRU-UH, ZTL 08).
  2. ZTL UH accepts and immediately initiates handoff to ZTL H (MVC-H, ZTL 11).
  3. When ZME observes ZTL H has accepted, ZME transfers comms to ZTL H.
  4. If ZTL H has not accepted prior to the aircraft reaching the boundary, ZME transfers comms to ZTL UH.

b. Aircraft transitioning from ZTL-08/11 through ZME to ZHU (MOB-H, ZHU-63 or HBG-UH, ZHU-37):

  1. ZTL initiates handoff to ZME.
  2. ZME accepts and immediately initiates handoff to ZHU.
  3. When ZTL observes ZHU has accepted, ZTL transfers comms to ZHU.
  4. If ZHU has not accepted prior to reaching the ZTL-ZME boundary, ZTL transfers comms to ZME.

c. ATL satellite arrivals on the SWTEE and BUKHD STARs:

  1. ZME UH sector initiates handoff to ZTL UH.
  2. ZTL UH accepts and immediately initiates handoff to ZTL H.
  3. When ZME observes ZTL H has accepted, ZME transfers comms to ZTL H.

d. BHM arrivals from ZME BNA-area (CKV-UH, ZME 61):

  1. ZME descends aircraft to FL350 and initiates handoff to ZTL UH.
  2. ZTL accepts and immediately initiates handoff to ZTL H.
  3. Once ZME observes ZTL H has accepted, ZME transfers comms to ZTL H.
  4. If ZTL H has not accepted prior to reaching the boundary, ZME transfers comms to ZTL UH.

e. MEI arrivals from Maxwell Low (MXF-L, ZTL 14):

  1. MXF-L initiates handoff to Kewanee Low (EWA-L, ZME 65).
  2. EWA-L accepts and immediately initiates handoff to Naval Air Station Meridian ATC (NASM).
  3. When the aircraft crosses the common boundary, MXF-L transfers comms to NASM.
  4. If NASM has not accepted prior to reaching the boundary, MXF-L transfers comms to EWA-L.
