AIT overview

AIT defines the specific sector sequence, altitude assignments, and handoff rules for traffic moving between ZME sectors and adjacent facilities. Each entry lists the sectors involved and the step-by-step coordination required.

Area 1

RYYMN arrivals — Nashville area (BNA/MBT/JWN/MQY) AOA FL240 (Sector 25)

1. Clear on appropriate STAR. S25 assigns FL240, initiates handoff to S63. No PD descent.
2. S63 accepts and initiates handoff to S41. If no handoff to S41, TOC to S63; else TOC to S41.
3. If FL240 unavailable: S25 assigns lowest available, TOC to S63.

Cincinnati area arrivals (CVG/LUK) (Sectors 25, 26)

• Must cross S63 boundary AOB FL330. Prior approval required if not possible.

Louisville area arrivals (SDF/LOU/FTK/JVY) — turbojets (Sectors 25, 26)

• Must cross S62 or S63 boundary AOB FL310. Prior approval required if not possible.

CVG terminal & Louisville terminal arrivals entering S33 from S35 (Sectors 25, 33, 35)

1. S35 clears to FL350, initiates handoff to S33. No PD descent.
2. S33 accepts and initiates handoff to S25. If no handoff, TOC to S33; else TOC to S25.
3. If FL350 unavailable: S35 assigns lowest available, TOC to S33.

1. S35 clears to FL250, initiates handoff to S33. No PD descent.
2. S33 accepts and initiates handoff to S26. If no handoff, TOC to S33; else TOC to S26.
3. If FL350 unavailable: S35 assigns lowest available, TOC to S33.

Aircraft AOA FL240 landing LEX (Sectors 61, 33, 26)

1. S33 descends to FL350, initiates handoff to S61.
2. S61 accepts and initiates handoff to S62/63. If no handoff, TOC to S61; else TOC to S62/63.
3. If FL350 unavailable: S33 assigns lowest available, TOC to S61.

BLUZZ/WLDER arrivals from J29 clockwise to Q34 (Sectors 61, 33, 26)

1. S61 assigns FL350. No PD descent. Initiates handoff to S33.
2. S33 accepts and initiates handoff to S26. If no handoff, TOC to S33; else TOC to S26.
3. If FL350 unavailable: S61 assigns lowest available, TOC to S33.

Area 2

Fayetteville terminal arrivals from S3 AOA 16,000 ft entering S2 (Sectors 2, 3)

1. S3 enters assigned/interim 16,000 ft, initiates handoff to S2.
2. S2 initiates handoff to Razorback Approach, or verbally coordinates with S3.
3. S3 transfers comms to Razorback Approach.
4. If 16,000 ft unavailable: S3 assigns lowest available, TOC to S2.

BRBBQ/DAWGG arrivals into MEM entering S35 from S19 (Sectors 19, 27, 35)

1. S19 clears to FL350. No PD descent. Initiates handoff to S35.
2. S35 accepts and initiates handoff to S27. If no handoff, TOC to S35; else TOC to S27.
3. If FL350 unavailable: S19 assigns lowest available, TOC to S35.

1. S22/27 assigns FL240, initiates handoff to S21. PD descent authorized.

3. S22/27 transfers comms to S1/3/15.
4. If FL240 unavailable: S22/27 assigns lowest available, TOC to S21.

1. S35 clears to FL350, initiates handoff to S33. No PD descent.

3. If FL350 unavailable: S35 assigns lowest available, TOC to S33.

3. S21 transfers comms to S3.
4. If FL240 unavailable: S21 assigns lowest available, TOC to S27.

1. S3 assigns FL230, initiates handoff to S21.
2. S21 enters altitude AOB FL340 (right for direction of flight), initiates handoff to S27.
3. S27 accepts, or verbally coordinates with S3.
4. S3 climbs aircraft to S21’s coordinated altitude, transfers comms to S27.

MEM inbounds AOA FL350 (Sectors 19, 20, 21)

1. S19 enters assigned/interim FL250, initiates handoff to S20. No PD descent.
2. S20 accepts and initiates handoff to S21, or verbally coordinates.
3. S19 transfers comms to S21.
4. If FL350 unavailable: S19 assigns lowest available, TOC to S20.

Area 3

Fayetteville terminal arrivals from S3 AOA 16,000 ft entering S2 (Sectors 2, 3)

1. S3 enters assigned/interim 16,000 ft, initiates handoff to S2.
2. S2 initiates handoff to Razorback Approach, or verbally coordinates with S3.
3. S3 transfers comms to Razorback Approach.
4. If 16,000 ft unavailable: S3 assigns lowest available, TOC to S2.

1. S22/27 assigns FL240, initiates handoff to S21. PD descent authorized.

4. If FL240 unavailable: S22/27 assigns lowest available, TOC to S21.

2. S21 enters altitude AOB FL340 (right for direction of flight), initiates handoff to S27.

LIT area arrivals AOA FL240 (Sectors 30, 44, 15)

1. S30 assigns FL240, initiates handoff to S44. No PD descent.
2. S44 accepts and initiates handoff to S15, or verbally coordinates with S30.
3. S30 transfers comms to S15.
4. If FL240 unavailable: S30 assigns lowest available, TOC to S44.

Area 4

Aircraft AOA FL240 departing/over-flying MEM entering ZTL T03 (Gadsden Hi) or T02 (Gunter UH) (Sectors 30, 32, 46, 43)

1. S30/32 enters assigned/interim altitude, initiates handoff to S46/43.
2. S46/43 accepts and initiates handoff to ZTL T02/T03, or verbally coordinates with S30/32.
3. S30/32 coordinates interim altitudes and completes point-out to S46/ZTL T03 if necessary.
4. S30/32 transfers comms to receiving sector.

1. S30 assigns FL240, initiates handoff to S44. No PD descent.
2. S44 accepts and initiates handoff to S15, or verbally coordinates with S30.
3. S30 transfers comms to S15.
4. If FL240 unavailable: S30 assigns lowest available, TOC to S44.

Area 5

BNA eastbound/northeastbound departures requesting AOA FL240 (Sectors 40, 62)

1. S40 clears to FL230, initiates handoff to S62.
2. S62 accepts and enters assigned/interim altitude (AOB FL310 if next entering ZTL T37), initiates handoff to ZID I84 (REBEL Hi) or ZTL T37 (Crossville Hi), or verbally coordinates with S40.
3. S40 clears to altitude in data block and transfers comms.

BNA departures filed over IIU or on J39 northbound requesting AOA FL240 (Sectors 41, 63)

1. S41 clears to FL230, initiates handoff to S63.
2. S63 accepts and enters assigned/interim altitude in data block.
3. S63 initiates handoff to ZID I82 (Louisville Hi), or verbally coordinates with S41.
4. S41 clears to altitude in data block and transfers comms.

1. S33 descends to FL350, initiates handoff to S61.
2. S61 accepts and initiates handoff to S62/63. If no handoff, TOC to S61; else TOC to S62/63.

BNA turbojet departures on FLAME or TIPPN SID entering S62 (Sectors 60, 62)

1. S60 initiates handoff to S62. S62 enters altitude AOB FL290.
2. S62 initiates handoff to ZTL Sector 6 (Rocket Hi).
3. Upon completion of radar handoff, S60 climbs to coordinated altitude and transfers comms to ZTL Sector 6.

SID restriction

Aircraft must remain on the SID throughout this coordination.

Area 6

Aircraft AOA FL240 departing/over-flying MEM entering ZTL T03 (Gadsden Hi) or T02 (Gunter UH) (Sectors 30, 32, 46, 43)

1. S30/32 enters assigned/interim altitude, initiates handoff to S46/43.
2. S46/43 accepts and initiates handoff to ZTL T02/T03, or verbally coordinates with S30/32.
3. S30/32 coordinates interim altitudes and completes point-out to S46/ZTL T03 if necessary.
4. S30/32 transfers comms to receiving sector.
